A 6th grader is dead after being hit by a tractor-trailer cab Tuesday evening.

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- A 6th grader is dead after being hit by a tractor-trailer cab Tuesday evening.

"He didn't get to live life yet," said a friend of the victim.

The accident happened in the 6100 block of Brookwood Drive just after 5:30 p.m.

The driver remained on scene.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The victims friend, Jahnas Harris, said he wants to clear up some misconceptions.

"It was not a prank, it was not a dare," Harris said. "No one asked him to do that. He volunteered and they told him not to."

Harris said the whole accident was filmed on a friends smartphone. He wasn't there when it happened but says he saw the video before it was deleted.

"She had the video and it was so sad," he said. "She gave me the phone and I watched the video and it showed him he jumped up there and he got stuck the second time he jumped up there and he flipped and fell"

On Wednesday, Shawn Green, the Principal of John Yeates Middle School, released a letter to parents regarding the death.
