NORFOLK, Va.- With the 2017 NBA Draft happening on Thursday night, the hopes and dreams of young college and international players will take center stage. One former local player knows of the experience all too well. Former NSU great, Kyle O'Quinn remembers the day he was taken in the 2nd round (49th overall) by the Orlando Magic in 2012. "The emotions through the people who were in the room with me, it was all genuine", he says. "From tears to laughing to damn near jumping jacks", he joked.
O'Quinn is in town for the Spartans Green and Gold Basketball Camp for children between the ages of 7-17. "It's a once in a lifetime opportunity." He would play for the Magic for three seasons before getting another great opportunity. O'Quinn was part of a sign and trade that sent the Queens, NY native to his childhood team, the Knicks. Now in his 3rd season in New York, O'Quinn has this advice for those waiting anxiously for their name to be heard. "Be nervous. Except that. Don't fight it. I'm a really spiritual guy. Pray as much as you even though he already. Just continue to pray because that's the only thing that can keep you at ease."
