New class for 2017 HR Sports HOF

Six new members were inducted into the 10th annual Hampton Roads Sports Hall Of Fame.

NORFOLK, Va.- The 10th annual Hampton Roads Sports Hall Of Fame class was another special one. Six new members were enshrined at Norfolk Scope Monday night. The 2017 class included Dre Bly who played his high school football at Western Branch. He'd go on to be a 2-time All-American at the University of North Carolina. The Chesapeake native spent 11 seasons in the NFL between Rams, Lions, Broncos and 49ers. In Super Bowl XXXIV, Bly won a title with the Rams.

Fellow Chesapeake native, Charlie Stukes was also inducted. He was in Super Bowls III and V; winning the later with the Colts. Former ODU Lady Monarch, Yogi Hightower-Boothe helped guide the field hockey team to its first of nine national titles. Current Pittsburgh Pirates manager, Clint Hurdle was also among the new inductees. He's a former player with the Tides in 1983 and then later became manager for the club through their last season at old Met Park and their first year at Harbor Park. There's also former ODU Athletic Administrator, Debbie White and the late Virginian Pilot sports writer, Abe Goldblatt.
