UVA football ready for run up to preseason

The Cavaliers went 2-10 in Bronco Mendenhall's first year as head coach. They are taking no shortcuts to success.

It's been a rough go of it for UVA football over the last 10 seasons. In only one year over that span did they have a winning season. The Cavaliers went 2-10 in Bronco Mendenhall's first year as head coach in Charlottesville.

At ACC media day Mendenhall said, "We're all together now for year number two. We are realistic, optimistic and anxious to get to work. And, really that's the only promise we'll make, that we'll put in the amount of work necessary to continue to grown and build the program."

Kurt Benkert is back at quarterback. He played most of 2016 hurt and will need to be at his best in 2017 as the Cavaliers lost a lot of talent at running back and on the offensive line.

Bayside High alum Quin Blanding is the star on defense. He and linebacker Micah Kiser were named preseason all ACC.

UVA opens its season at home with William and Mary on September 2nd.
