Virginia Sports Hall of Fame to relocate to Va. Beach Town Center

The Virginia Sports Hall Of Fame officially announcing they'll be moving at the end of the month from Portsmouth to Virginia Beach.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- Officials have confirmed with us that the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame will relocate to Virginia Beach's Town Center.

That's according to Joel Rubin, chair of the Hall's board.

The Board of Directors of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame voted in February to move the museum from Portsmouth to Virginia Beach, but did not specify an exact location.

Board members are hoping to offer new programming at the new location, including self-guided tours and different speaking events. He said Town Center is an ideal location because of the multiple different venues, shops, and foot-traffic.

"There aren't a lot of places in Virginia that works for us like Town Center," Rubin told us back in February.

The Hall of Fame had been located on Portsmouth's High Street since 2005.

The museum's location in Portsmouth is set to close June 30.
