Public visitation on Navy ships and Coast Guard cutters begins Thursday, May 22 and continues through Monday, May 26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

NORFOLK -- Three U.S. Navy ships and two U.S. Coast Guard cutters will participate in the 2014 Fleet Week in New York City May 21 through May 27.

The week-long celebration known as Fleet Week has been held nearly every year since 1984. It is anticipated that nearly 1,500 sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will participate.

Ships participating include Norfolk-based guided-missile destroyer USS Cole, Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Oak Hill and Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Gettysburg from Mayport, Florida.

USCG participating ships will include cutter Katherine Walker, the 'Keeper of New York Harbor' from Bayonne, N.J. and cutter Campbell from Portsmouth, N.H.

In addition to public visitation of participating ships and military band concerts, there will be numerous exhibits and military demonstrations throughout the week showcasing the latest technology of the maritime services and the skilled expertise of our service members.
