NORFOLK (AP) -- The USS Porter has returned to sea following its August collision with an oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz.

The Virginian-Pilot reports the guided-missile destroyer underwent $700,000 worth of repairs in the United Arab Emirates and rejoined its carrier strike group in the Mediterranean Sea this month. The ship will undergo further repairs when it returns to Norfolk in November.

The collision left a breach about 10 feet by 10 feet in the starboard side of the ship. No one was injured.

A new commanding officer was put in place following the collision.
