CORAPEAKE, N.C.--Police were at a double wide trailer Friday afternoon removing dogs they said had been abused.

According to Sheriff Edward Webb, there were about 19 dogs in the trailer in the 600 block of Daniels Road that looked emmaciated and had various wounds. Many of the dogs were pit bulls.

Webb said a state veterinarian was being brought in to examine the dogs.

There was no evidence that there had been dog fighting on the property.

There was no word if anyone had been charged in the matter.
