NORFOLK -- What should stay and what should go in the Norfolk Schools budget?

You can tell officials what you think about the proposed budget Tuesday, March 5, during a work session at 3:00 p.m. and a public hearing at 7:00 p.m.

Superintendent Dr. Samuel King's $300,114,282 million budget proposal for July 2, 2013 to June 30, 2014 calls for big cuts, including eliminating 108 jobs. The budget also includes a two-percent salary increase for all Norfolk Public Schools staff members.

Norfolk Public Schools is facing an $18 million shortfall.

The School Board has to approve a budget this month and sent it to City Council by April 1. From there, Council will decide whether to adopt the school division's budget as is or make changes. Council's deadline for adopting a budget is May 1.
