ELIZABETH CITY, NC - A former Elizabeth City State University dorm security officer found guilty of sexually assaulting a student is appealing that decision.
Monday night, Anthony Butler was convicted on several charges including two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of sexual battery and one count of assault on a female.
He was arrested after the woman accused Butler of coming into her dorm room three times and forcing himself on her.
The university's police chief and chancellor stepped down amid the controversy.
Butler was sentenced to serve 34 days in jail and pay a $500 fine.
His appeal will go on to Pasquotank Co. Superior court. The District Attorney has to set the next court date.
