ELIZABETH CITY-- Police are investigating an early morning shooting in Elizabeth City that left one person injured.

Police say 31-year-old Darrin Duane Jernigan was shot around 1 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 1000 block of Hunter Street.

Jernigan said he was visiting a friend and told police they heard gunshots and when they ran into the home they realized Jernigan had been shot.

Jernigan was transported to Albemarle Hospital and later transferred to Norfolk General.

Officials say the bullet entered his right buttock, struck his hip and caused other internal damage.

Police say neither the victim, nor witnesses could provide any information about a suspect or motive.
