PORTSMOUTH-A man visiting friends in Portsmouth was killed early Thursday.

Police say 38-year-old James Eddie Delando Hill was shot as he stood with friends outside a house at 2402 Acorn Street.

Soon after the 2:55 a.m. shooting, a man showed up a the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. Police say he reported being hit by gunfire in the Acorn Street area.

Investigators are trying to determine if he was with Hill or was wounded by a stray bullet. Det. Jan Clark told WVEC.com.

A man who lives in the area said he heard several shots around that time. He also said nothing like this has happened in the six years he's lived here.
