PORTSMOUTH -- A Portsmouth nightclub has reportedly shut down and voluntarily surrendered its license to sell alcohol, officials told 13News Now Friday.

Kathleen Shaw, public relations specialist with Alcoholic Beverage Control, confirmed Big Daddy's Bar & Grill surrendered their liquor license Thursday.

Police told 13News Now the business has a history of violence.

The Portsmouth Commonwealth's Attorney's Office's filed a civil lawsuit against the nightclub in October, contending that it is a nuisance to the community.

As of Friday, no other details were available, said Shaw.

Prosecutors with the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office could not immediately be reached for comment.
