GLOUCESTER-- A single-vehicle accident damaged a local restaurant yesterday.

Police say 60-year-old Madeline Davis was driving northbound on Route 17 in a 2002 Toyota 4Runner when she veered off the highway and drove into a Pizza Hut dining room. Officials say she also hit two mailboxes before the SUV came to rest at the restaurant.

Virginia State Police First Sgt. Caren Sterling says Davis suffered 'a medical emergency' while driving, which caused the accident.

Sterling reports that Davis was later treated at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

No injuries were reported.
