NORFOLK A new shuttle service for all Tidewater Community College campuses is designed for people like Al Faison.
He lost his job of 25 years when International Paper closed its paper mill in Franklin.
Now, at age 45, he's starting over and taking classes at TCC to become a radiologist.
'When I drive and park at the Portsmouth campus, I can access the new connector shuttle and I will ultimately have to attend the Virginia Beach campus, which is going to be quite a commute for me if I had to do it from Franklin,' he said.
TCC cut the ribbon on the service on Monday.
Shuttles will run Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
TCC President Dr Deborah M. DiCroce expect there will be a few kinks early on.
'We're sure too we'll probably have to add tweaks to it. If we do, we will provide a mechanism for the students to give us that feedback. And if it really takes off we'll add buses. The sky is the limit,' said DiCroce.
It will be free for the first two weeks. After that, users have to show a TCC ID and use a debit or credit card to pay for the ride.
A one-way ticket is $3.00; a round trip will cost $6.00
