NORFOLK-The commanding officer of USS Porter has been relieved of command.

The move comes following an investigation into the August 12 collision between the Norfolk- based guided-missile destroyer and a Panamanian flagged tanker near the Strait of Hormuz.

The Navy said in a press release that it's lost confidence in Cmdr. Martin Arriola's ability to commend.

Cmdr. Arriola has been reassigned to Naval Surface Force, Atlantic.

USS Porter is now commanded by Cmdr. Dave Richardson, the former executive officer of USS McFaul (DDG 74), who will serve as a permanent relief.

USS Porter remains in Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates undergoing repair.
