Minimum Qualifications:

  • * Bachelor's in broadcast communications or related field (master's preferred)
  • * 5 yrs experience as broadcast news director/manager in a mid-to-major size market
  • * Proven leadership skills, interacting with and managing a larger/diverse news staff
  • * Excellent oral/written communication skills, strong organization abilities to meet daily deadlines
  • * Ability to make quick and sound judgment for on-air programming
  • * Adept at negotiating/managing budgets and contracts

Accountabilities

  • Responsible for the content of all WVEC's TV news programs and activities
  • Direct planning/implementation of short/long term department goals, projects, and budgeting
  • Responsible for news policy formulation and adherence by staff members
  • Consult with news managers, producers, and other staff to execute news gathering/broadcast strategy
  • Represent WVEC in local/national news matters, attend professional seminars and events
