VIRGINIA BEACH - A broken water main caused traffic problems for much of the day in part of Va. Beach.
All southbound lanes on Princess Anne Road near Holland Road, a main route to the Municipal Center and Courthouse, were blocked until 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Dispatchers told WVEC.com an off-duty police officer heading to work around 3:00 a.m. reported water coming up from the street. Crews arrived and found the road was buckling as well.
There were no problems northbound.
There was no construction in the area at the time, so public utilities officials will work to find what caused the break.
The main was repaired around noon, but then the road had to be repaved.
The detour for motorists traveling southbound on Princess Anne, toward the Municipal Center, was lifted as soon as the paving was completed.
