PORTSMOUTH-- A Portsmouth Sheriff's Deputy was arrested Friday morning after he allegedly drove his BMW into a utility pole and then kept driving.
The deputy, 31-year-old Stephen M. Fredericks, of the 3000 block of Reese Drive, was arrested for driving under the influence, hit and run and assault on a law enforcement officer.
Police say Fredericks was traveling east on High Street when his BMW went off the road and hit a utility pole and a tree.
A second utility pole was also damaged from the first pole falling on it.
According to police, Fredericks then continued driving the vehicle to Reese Drive.
Officers responding to the scene found a gray, BMW with damage, and the male driver uninjured.
While Mr. Fredericks was being processed by the officers he allegedly assaulted one of them. The officer did not require medical treatment.
