NEWPORT NEWS - A car caught fire when workers were welding at a Newport News auto shop Monday morning.

It happened around 7:20 a.m. at Pete's Custom Auto at 10165 Jefferson Ave.

Acting Fire Chief Scott Liebold said the fire was contained to a racing-type vehicle in the maintenance area of the shop and it appears that flammable materials on or around the vehicle were ignited.

No one was hurt and the building wasn't damaged.

The far right southbound lane of Jefferson Ave was blocked so fire crews could get to the shop.
