HAMPTON -- The bomb squad detonated a suspicious package found on a bench in Hampton.

Authorities say the cardboard box was a 'misplaced package' which contained some clothing and other household items. Fire Department officials say it was detonated out of an abundance of caution.

Police closed Mercury Blvd. eastbound between Aberdeen Rd. & Power Plant Pkwy. Tuesday morning after the package was found near the Longhorn Steakhouse on Marketplace Drive.

Police have given the all-clear for the area and traffic is now open.

During the incident, four surrounding businesses closed voluntarily.
