NORFOLK - Fire damaged three units at a Norfolk apartment complex.

Crews were called to Lexington Park Apartments on E. Princess Anne Road just before 7:00 a.m. They saw smoke and flames coming from one of the apartments and dark smoke around the complex.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for several miles.

The man and woman living in the apartment heard the smoke alarm go off and got out. They went door-to-door to alert their neighbors to the fire, said Battalion Chief Julian Williamson.

The firefight blocked E. Princess Anne Road in the immediate area - from Chapel Street to Church Street until around 10:45 a.m.

Battalion Chief Julian Williamson said no one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Red Cross is helping those who can't say in their homes.
