UPDATE 6/26: Carrier Strike Group 8 relieved USS Hue City's executive officer of his duties on June 26 as a result of an investigation into the April 14 fire aboard the ship.

Rear Adm. Vic Mercado, commander, Carrier Strike Group 8, found Lt. Cmdr. John Liddle, USS Hue City's executive officer, guilty during non-judicial punishment proceedings for failure to comply with procedures that could have prevented the fire.

A relief for LCDR Liddle has yet to be named.

NORFOLK (AP) -- The Navy says a fire was reported aboard a guided-missile cruiser as it was transiting the Atlantic Ocean.

U.S. Fleet Forces Command says the fire aboard the USS Hue City broke out late Monday.

The Navy said in a statement Tuesday that no injuries were reported and that the ship is operating on its own power.

The Navy says the extent of the damage is under assessment and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The ship had left Mayport, Fla., on Friday for a deployment to the Navy's Sixth Fleet area of responsibility, which includes waters near Europe and Africa.
