CHESAPEAKE - Vehicle break-ins continue to be a problem in parts of Chesapeake.

A man smashed the window of a car parked at Sparrow Intermediate School in Greenbrier on June 21 and grabbed a purse from the back seat. The owner was there to watch a softball game and her purse contained cash, checks, credit cards, gifts cards, jewelry and more.

Police say witnesses saw a man get out of a small four-door car and break the glass, grab the purse and leave the scene.

Dozens of incidents have occurred in the same area, particularly in parking lots at gyms, rec centers and apartment complexes.

Police remind people to put valuables in the trunk of their vehicle if you can't take them with you.
