NORFOLK--Jack Kissinger is 68 and he's celebrating a 25-year milestone.

In August 1987, he got a new heart because a family in Ohio decided to donate a loved one's organ.

His wife says doctors gave him a 50/50 chance of surviving for five years and he's still going strong 20 years beyond that.

Wanda says she's grateful to God, the donor family, the MCV and Sentara Norfolk Heart Transplant Teams, and all the medical personnel involved in his care over the years.

She says every day with Kissinger is a gift she treasures and calls her husband her hero and best friend.

Kissinger is one of 98 heart transplant patients in the world to have lived more than 25 years with a donor heart.
