CHESAPEAKE (AP) -- Police in Chesapeake are searching for a $50,000 race car that was stolen from outside a Chesapeake storage facility.

Officials say that its owner, Leon Wiggins of Norfolk, reported the red 1989 Ford Mustang stolen this week after he saw it was missing. He said he'd last seen it Dec. 1, after his last race.

Wiggins said he's owned and raced the car for 15 years at various tracks in Virginia and North Carolina. He drag races almost every weekend during the spring, summer and fall.

Media outlets report that Wiggins said the car was parked in a white trailer with several tools and a dirt bike. The professional mechanic said the entire trailer was stolen.
