NEWPORT NEWS-- One woman is dead after a Saturday morning house fire.

Flames broke out just before 10 a.m. Saturday morning at the 1000 block of 27th Street in Newport News leaving an 81-year-old woman dead.

The fire was under control in less than 10 minutes.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire and the cause of death of the victim. Police spokesperson Holly McPherson said authorities will not know the cause of death until an autopsy is performed.

Police are not releasing the name of the victim until a relative is notified.

Fire Chief Scott Liebold said that even though the fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time, it will be considered suspicious because there was a death.
