YORK COUNTY-Authorities say a man used the story of his mother's death to get a refund at a York Co. grocery store.

He went into Food Lion in Washington Square Shopping Center, told the manager he was a fire chief and wanted to return several cans of Ensure protein supplement bought for his elderly mother who recently passed away, said spokesman Lt. Dennis Ivey. He said he didn't have a receipt and the manager stated he could return the cans as long as they were not expired.

The man left but returned later in the day and got a refund. When the store check its inventory, there were no extra cans on the shelf. The store surveillance camera footage shows the man went into the store around 1:15 p.m., took cans from the shelf and then got his refund from the Customer Service counter within 10 minutes.
