VIRGINIA BEACH---A middle school student is recovering after being hit by a car on her way to the bus stop in Virginia Beach Tuesday morning.

Police say a Ford Explorer ran a stop sign at the intersection of Kellam Road and Aragona Blvd, collided with a Toyota Tacoma and one of the vehicles then struck the girl.

According to school officials, she has several broken bones.

Parents in the neighborhood are upset by what they call a 'dangerous intersection' that needs critical changes.

'It's a troubled spot right here,' said David Clark. 'A crosswalk and signs and trimming the bushes back to give drivers more visibility of the kids would be helpful.'

The driver of the Explorer, 78-year-old Vincent Earl Gunn, was issued a summons for reckless driving.
