Elizabeth City couple arrested in counterfeit money operation
ELIZABETH CITY -- The Elizabeth City Police Department has arrested two people in connection with a Counterfeit Currency operation.
Over the past few weeks, the department said it had received a much high than normal call for service in reference to counterfeit currency being passed around the city and surrounding areas.
Upon extensive investigation and communication with officials from the U.S. Secret Service, a search warrant was obtained for a home in the 1800 block of Sanford Drive, the residence of Terrance and Ronika Tillet.
During the process of gathering evidence from the residence, officers located an undisclosed amount of counterfeit currency and equipment used to make the illegal tender, police said. A stolen firearm and a small amount of marijuana was also found.
Both Terrence Tillet, 23, and Ronika Tillett, 25, have been arrested and charged in the case.
Police say is not yet know exactly how much counterfeited money was made, but it is estimated to be in the 10s of thousands of dollars.
An investigation is still underway.
Anyone who happens across one of the counterfeit bills is urged to contact The Elizabeth City Police Department at (252)335-4321 or the Elizabeth City Pasquotank County Crime Line at (252)335-5555.
