NEWPORT NEWS -- A man was assaulted, robbed and forced into a closet by three men, Newport News Police say.

'They ordered him to stay there or be shot,' police spokesman Harold Eley said.

It was around 7:15 p.m. Sunday, May 4, when the 29-year-old got home to Newport Commons on Turlington Road.

'He noticed two safes and an Xbox 360 game system that belonged to him on the ground by the entrance of the breezeway,' Eley added.

Three men with guns were waiting inside; one hit him in head with a handgun and another ordered him to the floor. They took his money, cell phone, watch and car keys and then forced him into the closet.

When the man finally got out of the closet, his 2005 Toyota was missing. It was abandoned a few blocks away, Eley told WVEC.com.

The suspects were described as black, wearing white T-shirts and are in their early-to-mid-20s.
