VIRGINIA BEACH -- A speeding driver hit a parked car, sending it into a house in Virginia Beach.

It happened around 2:15 a.m. on Bernadotte Street.

Officers at the scene say the driver of a black Lexus was going more than 60 MPH in a 25 MPH zone when it slammed into a car parked in the driveway. The impact pushed the vehicle into the home.

Melody Driver said she was sitting in her living room at the time. At first, she thought a tree had fallen on the house.

'I was hollering for my husband and my son who were upstairs,' Driver said. 'I heard my husband finally get up, but I never heard my son and I thought one of the pine trees had fallen on my house and my baby was dead.'

Driver says it was just a few minutes before her 18-year-old son came downstairs. She was relieved to know that he and her husband were okay.

The driver, who hasn't been identified, was taken to the hospital.

Officers say possible charges against the man include DUI, speeding and distracted driving.

The car that hit the house belongs to Driver's son.

The Drivers say they'll be staying with a neighbor, at least for a little while, while repairs are made.
