5/20 UPDATE: The stolen dog was located in the 1300 block fo Waycroft Reach in Chesapeake Tuesday, according to Virginia Beach police.The dog has since been reunited with its owners.
The case remains under investigation, police said.
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Virginia Beach Police are looking for a potential dog-napper who they say met the dog's owner on an online dating app.
Police say the theft occurred in the 4200 block ofDerby Wharf Drive last Wednesday afternoon.
A Virginia Beach man who doesn't want to be identified said he met the suspect on a popular online app called Skout.
'We talked for a little while you know, decided we were both bored so she decided she wanted to come on over and I said, 'yeah that's fine,'' he told 13News Now.
The Virginia Beach man said the woman came over and they watched a movie and then she went downstairs.
'...she said she was going to her car to get her iPad or something like that and when she went downstairs to get the iPad basically never came back,' he said.That's when he realized his date had left and took off with the family pet named 'LaLa,' a Pomeranian dog.
He is pleading with the public to help find his dog, 'If you know where the dog is just please give it back.'
The man also offered this advice to people about dating online: 'Just be careful, be very careful who you interact with. Just make sure you know and meet at a mutual place, make sure you talk to them for a long time before you ever invite someone over your house.'
