NORFOLK -- The Extreme Makeover:Home Edition built was a big success for one Va. Beach family.

It was a big success as well for foodbanks in Hampton Roads and North Carolina.

Because the Hill-Burdette family is involved with the homeless, producers of the ABC show also launched a food drive to help the hungry.

They hoped to collect record 307,000 pounds of food, but Hampton Roads went to the extreme, shattering that amount.

Officials announced donations reached 406,630 pounds, which will help to provide approximately 313,000 meals.

Hundreds of businesses, schools and organizations across the region pitched in to make the drive a success.

The Extreme Food Drive began January 20 at a pep rally held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and it continued through February 11.
