NEWPORT NEWS -- Anyone planning to take a road trip will be glad to know gas prices are continuing to remain lower than recent months.

The average cost to fill up with regular unleaded in Hampton Roads is $3.23. That's 26 cents cheaper than a year ago, and it's 18 cents lower than the national average.

The reasonable gas prices may also bring more tourists to Hampton Roads this summer.

Officials with AAA say some analysts believe prices at the pump will drop another five to 20 cents a gallon across the country before the fourth of July.

'It's a substantial amount of savings for me,' said John Johnson visiting from New York.

One family 13News talked with at a campground said the gas prices changed their plans.

'About two weeks ago, when we when we saw prices coming down quite a bit, we decided that we were going to take off and we were going to go to New York and see my mother,' said Carla Aronson. 'We also decided to extend the trip up to Maine to visit the rest of our family up there at the same time.'
