ELIZABETH CITY, N.C.-- A Coast Guard crew from the Elizabeth City Coast Guard station medevaced a 72-year-old woman from a cruise ship on Monday. The ship was approximately 210 miles offshore of Oregon Inlet when the crew radioed that a woman passenger was experiencing medical problems.

The Coast Guard 5th District duty flight surgeon recommended a medevac.

Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City then launched air crews aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a HC-130 Hercules airplane.

With the Hercules crew providing radio and air cover, the Jayhawk crew hoisted the woman and her husband aboard and took them to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk.
