HAMPTON -- A new dog tethering ordinance will go into effect on January 1st in Hampton.

Under the new law, it will be illegal to tether or chain up any companion animals under any circumstances.

Residents who break the law could face a class four misdemeanor.

Hampton Animal Control will enforce the new law.
