PORTSMOUTH-- A worker was hurt Monday afternoon when a load being lifted by a crane fell.

The accident happened at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard's pier replacement project around 5:15 p.m.

A floating crane was lifting a concrete bucket when the load fell. The worker that was hit was a superintendent for SKANSKA, a Virginia Beach-based construction company working at the shipyard.

According to a spokesperson for SKANSKA, Jessica Murray, the worker was taken to the hospital where he was being treated. She said they hoped he would be released Monday night.

The accident is under investigation.
