MOYOCK, NC - Fire destroyed a home in Moyock, NC Thursday morning.

Crews responded to 108 Shark Street in Tulls Bay Colony around 6:00 a.m., authorities told WVEC.com.

Patty Halstead, who lives across the street, said three people were in the home at the time and two of them were taken to the hospital to be checked after breathing in smoke.

The homeowner was watching TV and heard her brother's girlfriend yell 'fire,' so she grabbed her pets, including a macaw, and got out of the house.

Her brother and his girlfriend escaped out of a bedroom window. They went to the hospital for smoke inhalation but have been released.

Neighbors are trying to get donations, including a bird cage, to help the family since they lost everything.

Investigators were working to determine how the fire started.
