SUFFOLK -- The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries is investigating the deaths of two hunting dogs who apparently were shot Saturday.

A police report said two men were hunting near Box Elder Road in southwest Suffolk when their dogs were shot by an unknown subject.

Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink told WVEC.com one dog was found dead by its owner and the other dog later died from its injuries.

Klink said there were no witnesses.
