VIRGINIA BEACH---In honor of National Military Kids Month, the Virginia Beach City Public Schools are sponsoring a day devoted to recognizing military kids and families.

The SCA is conducting a Purple Out in honor of 'Purple Up for Military Kids' day on Wednesday by encouraging students, teachers, staff, and members of the community to support local military families by wearing purple.

Even the division website, which features a new military section, will go purple and spotlight a video highlighting VBCPS military-connected students and their families.

'Military families have such a profound impact on this community and we are fortunate to call their children, our children,' said Dr. Sheila S. Magula, superintendent. 'We have a strong commitment to providing support, resources and enriching programs that serve our military-connected students well.'

Wednesday night, the First Colonial SCA will host a 'cashola' fundraising event at Moe's Southwest Grill in the Market Place at Hilltop in Virginia Beach to raise money for the National Military Family Association.

Moe's Southwest Grill has agreed to donate 10 percent of profits from all sales between 5 p.m. 8 p.m. to the cause.

The Department of Defense officially designated April as the Month of the Military Child in 1986. Currently, more than 22,000 military-connected students are enrolled in VBCPS.
