NEWPORT NEWS -- Child Protective Services was contacted Thursday after a 9-year-old Newport News boy wandered into a business hungry, police said.

According to police spokeswoman Holly McPherson, an employee of a business in the 9900 block of Warwick Blvd. contacted police around 5 p.m.

The boy reportedly had been at the business for almost an hour and there was not an adult with him.

This wasn't the first time the boy had come to the business, McPherson said. On several occasions he had come to the business before or after school and was always hungry and in need of a shower.

The child's mother, Kristine Lee Hudson, 32, of Newport News was arrested and charged with child neglect.
