NORFOLK -- A special election will be held September 4 to fill the seat of the late Sen. Yvonne Miller, Governor Bob McDonnell announced Wednesday.

Miller, who passed away July 3, was the first black woman elected to the Virginia House and Senate, the first to chair a Senate committee and the longest-serving woman in the history of the Virginia Senate.

She served the 5th District, which covers parts of Chesapeake, Norfolk and Va. Beach

Also on September 4, a special election will fill the seat of Del. David Englin (D-45th D), who is resigning August 31.
