NORFOLK -- The Salvation Army is hitting the streets of Norfolk Tuesday afternoon to serve hot meals to the homeless after Hurricane Sandy.

Volunteers are preparing food for the mobile canteen that will be in Ocean View - next to New Life Christian Church at the intersection of Pleasant Avenue and 20th Bay Street - around 1:00 p.m.

Along with food, the canteen will provide clean-up kits.

At the Men's Shelter on W. 29th Street Monday night, the Salvation Army served 225 meals and gave shelter to 79 men and women in coordination with the Office to End Homelessness.

'Operations are returning to normal today,' says spokesman Matthew Pochily. 'Laundry, showers, counseling and lockers are available and the shelter will remain open.'
