SUFFOLK -- Police were investigating an early morning homicide on Linden Avenue Tuesday morning.

According to police, shortly after 3 a.m., officers responded to a call about shots fired with a male victim in the 400 block of Linden Avenue.

The victim was no longer at the scene, and they learned that he was in a van on the way to the hospital.

An officer found the victim being turned over to Suffolk EMS on nearby Wellons street.

The victim was taken to Sentara Norfolk General hospital with a gunshot wound in the upper chest, but was pronounced dead upon arrival at 3:55 a.m.

The victim has been identified at Carlton Holland, Jr., 31, of Suffolk.
