NORFOLK -- Hampton Roads woke up to frost on the windows and ice on the roads.

That made the commute a bit dicey for drivers out before sunrise.

Two accidents in the area of I-564 near Naval Station Norfolk caused backups that lasted for more than an hour.

Around 6:00 a.m., VDOT crews rerouted traffic off Terminal Blvd. because Va. State Police decided to close the eastbound ramp to I-564 because of an accident and ice.

About that same time, three lanes on I-564 West were closed because of an accident involving several vehicles. Norfolk Fire and Rescue officials said no one was hurt in that crash.

Trucks were sent to salt those roadways to help keep other accidents from happening.

VDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Gwaltney told WVEC.com the I-564 ramp was the only real troublespot early Friday.

People posted tothe WVEC Facebook page about icy conditions on many bridges/overpasses and on the Peninsula.
