NEWPORT NEWS-Three people escaped fire in their Newport News home.

Fire crews arrived on Dresden Drive around 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and saw smoke and flames coming from the two-story home.

It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control and the home was condemned because of the damage.

The three residents told firefighters they would stay with family and friends.

The preliminary investigation indicates unattended cooking may have started the fire.
