VIRGINIA BEACH - February is national spay-neuter awareness month.

If you can't get to the vet or are looking for a low-cost way to get this procedure for your pet, call the Va. Beach SPCA.

It's mobile clinic called the Neuter Scooter hit the streets in February 2007 with a mission to provide low-cost veterinary services to pet owners in the community who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford the necessary care their animals require.

Now, there's Neuter Scooter 2.0, which works with the original Neuter Scooter providing spays and neuters to animals throughout the greater Hampton Roads Area.

Besides being a clinic on wheels, the Scooter can also be used to respond to disasters. Officials said they decided that SPCA employees should take part in disaster training and planning after seeing the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

For questions about Neuter Scooter visits, call 757-323-7729 or go to the SPCA Website.
