PORTSMOUTH-- Portsmouth police responded to the 1600 block of McDaniel St. around 2:30 p.m. after a resident found an item that resembled military ordnance.

A one block radius was closed to traffic and residents were asked to stay inside or away from the area.

The projectile-shaped device was checked out by Navy EOD, determined not to be live and taken by the team.

The area was reopened to traffic around 5 p.m.
