NEWPORT NEWS -- A Hampton man has been arrested in connection with two sexual assaults in Newport News earlier this year.

Police arrested 26-year-old Lee Michael McMurray at his home in the 5100 block of Goldsboro Drive on Friday. He is charged with rape, sodomy, robbery and two counts of abduction.

According to Newport News Police spokeswoman Holly McPherson, McMurray assaulted a 22-year-old Newport News woman on Jan. 1. The woman was communicating with McMurray over the internet and arranged to meet. McMurray allegedly picked the victim up, took her behind a business in the Newmarket South Shopping Center and raped her. McMurray left the victim in the parking lot, officials said.

McPherson says the suspect raped a 24-year-old Newport News woman on January 19 after communicating with each other over the internet for several months. The victim told McMurray she was sick and he offered to take her to get some medicine. McMurray allegedly picked the victim up, drove to the rear of the Midtown Community Center and sexually assaulted her. McMurray left the victim in the parking lot, officials said.

McMurray is being held in the Newport News City Jail.

According to police, a photo of McMurray is not being released 'due to continued investigations.'
